Helakuru, a popular Sri Lankan Mobile App, was recently recognized as the Sri Lankan Android App of the Year at Google I/O Extended Awards powered by Dialog. Boasting a user base of over 4 Million downloads, Helakuru is an English/Sinhala keyboard that also includes a host of other features. According to ratings on the Google Play Store, Helakuru is also the No.1 Lifestyle App in Sri Lanka as well.
Launched in 2011 by Dhanika Perera, through his digital products company Bhasha, Helakuru attracted a significant audience as it was one of the easiest ways to type in Sinhala on both iOS and Android. Currently, Helakuru enables over 4 Million Sri Lankans to type in Sinhala. This leads to a significant social impact in the country to bridge the digital divide, changing the way we as Sri Lankans can express ourselves.
With the introduction of the premium version of Helakuru, Helakuru Pro, users are also given advanced options such as personalization of the keyboard background etc. Currently, Helakuru is transforming from a simple keyboard app into an actual Digital Lifestyle App for its user base. The team at Bhasha are working to add more features to Helakuru to convert it to a Super App of sorts to bring even more functionality to its users.
Helakuru has also been recognized previously several times, internationally with mBillionth South Asian Award in 2014 and locally with e-Swabhimani National Award in 2012, NBQSA Awards in 2013 & NYDB Social Media Awards in 2016 as the Most Popular App in Sri Lanka.[/caption]
