Takas.lk launches Progressive Web App

In an approach to unleash the full potential of modern web browsers and related technologies, Takas.lk, a popular Sri Lankan e-Commerce portal launched Progressive Web Apps, better known as PWA in Sri Lanka. Takas, which has been regularly cited as being one of the most innovative companies in Sri Lanka, decided to put the customer first by making an investment in developing PWA to enhance consumer experience on both Web and Mobile platforms.

So what is a Progressive Web App?

A Progressive Web App makes use of modern web browser capabilities to deliver an app-like user experience without the user needing to install a conventional application or plugins. Let’s see some advantages of progressive web apps as opposed to visiting a website the usual way.

PWA is extremely reliable

For starters, PWA offers a more reliable method of reaching your customer. Rather than waiting for an app to load or for a web page to load, especially on an unreliable internet connection, PWA acts as similar to a combination of the two. It essentially caches some of the data so the user would have an uninterrupted experience even with a slow internet connection.

PWA is fast

Apps respond quickly to user interactions with smooth animations and minimal scrolling.  According to Industry best practices, 53% of users will leave a website if it takes longer than 3 seconds to load. With the responsiveness of PWA, e-commerce conversion rates are greatly increased.

It creates more engagement

Progressive Web Apps feel like an actual app installed on your device. But it’s not an actual app. There’s no need to download an app or install any app. You still get the same native experience of an app by simply visiting the mobile site.

A word from the Chiefs

Kalinga Athulathmudali, CTO of Takas.lk Kalinga said that they are “Super excited to have PWA launched in Sri Lanka. This will essentially revolutionize the manner in which consumers engage with Takas and I am sure others will follow us.”

Adding to this, Lahiru Pathmalal, CEO & Co-Founder of Takas.lk explained that “According to the Bureau of Statistics in Sri Lanka, more than 43% of the consumers now use a smart phone device to surf the web. We want to give them the best possible experience possible.”
